About Truffle
We make open source tools for building blockchain applications. Our tools let users simulate blockchain virtual machines, debug smart contracts step-by-step, manage suites of automated tests, deploy applications to live networks, interface with smart contracts at a high level of abstraction, and much more. We believe that software development tools should offer sensible defaults and never lose sight of human intent amidst low-level details.
About this role
You’ll primarily work on the Truffle command-line application for smart contract development. Currently in its fifth major version, Truffle’s first version was released in 2015 and has been in development and maintenance since, supporting tens of thousands of developers who use it for the many workflows it offers.
Truffle exists as a monorepo, written in TypeScript and JavaScript. It covers a wide surface area of capabilities, including to:
- Integrate multiple languages and compilers, detect which files have changed since previous compilations, and handle sources from external dependencies.
- Connect to and interface with multiple blockchain networks in the same project, possibly with differing architectures.
- Offer a contract abstraction that juggles the complex lifecycle of each blockchain transaction behind a straightforward JavaScript API.
- Maintain a persistent record of users’ project artifacts to allow robust debugging and historical analysis.
Truffle has ambitious goals – we build software components for the full lifecycle of smart contract development, leveraging our experiences building from first principles and coordinating with projects such as Infura, MetaMask, Web3.js, Solidity, and countless others. This role requires a knack for software design, adherence to software engineering best practices, and a love of hacking.
About you

- 5+ years of software engineering experience
- Software design knowledge
- Good at hacking
- Good at cleaning up hacking
- History of working with strongly-typed languages
- Expertise with command-line interfaces
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
