Group IT Engineer – DB Services

The Group IT Engineer DB Services’s role is to design, install, administer, and optimize company database servers Instances and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the database (SQL Packages, SQL Functions, SQL Triggers) as necessary. This includes ensuring the availability of Microsoft Data Bases, configuring all new implementations, as well as developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the Database (instances) / Server environment.

The infrastructure part of this role is to take care for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Microsoft systems, mainly within few of these areas: Windows Servers, Windows Workstations, O365, AD, Azure AD and other areas of Azure, Email (on premise and cloud), Adaxes, DNS, DHCP, SSO, PKI, desktop management, project management and PowerShell scripting.

In general, a broad knowledge within Microsoft infrastructure systems is helpful. A deep understanding of IT service delivery and projects handling in a large international company is required.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Deploying and maintaining pro-actively the introduced solution for managing data and application servers across the infrastructure estate
  • Backups, disk and database capacity management, server and database instance configurations, event and server logs analysis
  • Proactive and reactive administration and maintenance of the group SQL server Infrastructure
  • Application of patches, backups and verification and backup restores, high availably solutions – failover clustering, log shipping, replication, failover availability groups
  • Consolidation and migration of server and database instances across an array of environments
  • Operational Management – End User Support, Pickup tickets and user requests and report abnormal situations/concerns about systems
  • Change Management, Support development teams in code review, manage change and deploy code across the sever estate
  • Deploy and configure new server and database instances or consolidate unto an existing standalone or highly available environment
  • Architecting, deployment and support of standalone and highly available data and application solutions across an array of critical business environments
  • Remediation and performance optimization of data and applications servers – performance tuning, query, index, CPU, RAM, and disk subsystem IO optimization
  • Ensuring SQL Server supportability across data solutions and performing remediation assessments
  • Risk and performance assessment of data and application solutions, including performance analysis, design architecture, server configurations and DR strategies
  • Implementing and documenting a framework for DR testing. Performing DR scenarios to ensure SLA/s remain viable

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years’ equivalent work experience in a data base administration position responsible for managing Database environments
  • Professional development skills in MS SQL (Packages, Functions, Triggers)
  • Experience with MS Data Base performance tuning and monitoring tools.
  • Microsoft SQL Server administration
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2017 (or newer), Team Foundation Server
  • Measure Performance of Software (i.e. using Redgate SQL tools, MS Visual Studio)
  • ITSM Helpdesk
  • SharePoint Wikipedia system
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent English language skill
