About the Direct User product groups
Vertical Applications, Codefi, MetaMask, MetaMask Institutional, and others work together as part of the Direct User business unit. Together, they create new products across all verticals (consumer, institution, enterprise, protocols and DAOs, and developers), with an eye towards improving user experience with services that are monetizable. We build, deploy and maintain critical applications across ConsenSys’s industry leading products, like MetaMask, MetaMask Institutional, Infura, and Quorum.

About the role
We are currently building our data capabilities and looking for both Data Engineers and Data Scientists. As the first hire on our Data team, your job will be to shape our data engineering practices, working with the Consensys Data Org. You will help address all our variants of data, break down silos, enable best practices, provide first rate resources, and accelerate our mission of becoming a cutting edge data driven organization. Products you will build data pipelines for include MetaMask, MetaMask Institutional, Staking, Activate, Assets, Payments, as well as new product development, data products, and R&D efforts.
Job Responsibilities
- Help teams at Consensys Software elevate their data stacks by acting as a resource on best practices, best tooling, and best engineering.
- Own data relationships between individual product lines units and enable Consensys Software at large working with the Data Org.
- Help orchestrate the ETL pipelines that break down data silos and drive data availability across the company.
- Develop data collection, data management strategies that optimize efficiency and quality.
- Establish standards for data integrity tied to our data dictionary.
- Internally evangelize and spread the gospel on exciting data platforms like Druid, Streaming Architectures (Kafka/Kinesis), BigQuery, dbt, and Looker. Not super experienced in all of these? No worries, we'll bring you up to speed!
- Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain datasets.
- Ensure product managers have the data they need, and all requirements have pipelines to the Consensys Data Org (FiveTran, Big Query, DBT, Looker).
- Independently drive projects; work with fellow data scientists and product teams to identify improvements in efficiency and governance for their current data processes; teach them how to utilize the designed reporting and functionality in their processes.
Required Skills
- 4y+ proven working experience as a Data Engineer.
- Firm understanding of SQL
- Firm understanding of database and data engineering paradigms: row vs columnar, olap vs oltp, streaming vs batch, relational vs non-relational, etl vs elt, datalaking vs warehousing, etc.
- A favorite database (we'll ask!)
- Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
- Strong knowledge of and experience with databases (SQL, etc), programming (Python, Scala, R) and ETL frameworks
Bonus Points for:
- Experience with Segment, Mixpanel, ZenDesk, LookML (Tableau good too!), BigQuery (Redshift or Snowflake good too!), dbt.
- Experience with Dune Analytics, the Graph, Etherscan, Nansen, block explorers
- Have a passion for crypto, DeFi, Fintech, web3, open platforms, and equal financial opportunity. Demonstrated awareness or interest in the Ethereum landscape, and financial primitives and protocols that live on top of it.
